Week 11: 10/31 - 11/7

This week:

-> Host a team meeting on Sunday to go over final decisions of motor and controller

-> Purchased KBL controllers. Another team member, David, purchased 3 motors

->  Came up with the idea to scrap the previous shaft design and create a new shaft that will act as an axle. The axle will connect the shaft of two motors. I have spoken with bogie interaction team and we do have space for our team to proceed with that method. The new shaft design will help with weight distribution. This will also allow for less work being done to the motor itself to avoid messing up the motor.

-> Updated other teams about how progress and expected time of delivery for the products.

-> Hosted a second team meeting on Tuesday to being CAD design of new shaft.

-> 2nd meeting also consisted of updating each team member of our tasked research topic.

Next week:

-> Finalize on new CAD drawing

-> Speak with my advisor for MEP on doing rapid prototyping. We will 3D print parts that we will manufacture in the upcoming semester.

-> Seek advice from a machine shop about material to use for casing and shaft. Also, ask about pricing and estimated time needed to manufacture part we need.

2nd Semester Week 7 : 03/20 to 03/27

This week motor team discovered an issue with the motor we had purchased. The BLDC hub motor with a gearbox has made the motor unidirectional. I spoke with Dr. Furman to confirm whether it is mandatory to have the system reverse on its own. He replied that it would be nice, so I initialed and held an emergency meeting with all other full-scale to discuss our issue and proposed different solutions for all teams to vote on the best solution possible. This is a critical issue for SPARTAN Superway but not a major issue. However, it does involve changes to all teams. The solution we all agreed upon is to leave the drive bogie untouched. We will be utilizing the design and motor from Summer 2019 to help face our unidirectional problem. the slave bogie will now act as a mechanism to slow the drive bogie and reverse the bogie. 2nd Semester Week : 03/06 to 03/13

This week: - I kept in contact with Neil and the central shop to confirm our delivery date is still the end of March. We expect the motor casing to be done in about 2 weeks. - Researched how to assist Controls team with connecting the motor to the motor controller. The adapter we purchased fixed our 9 pin julet problem. However, we are faced with a bullet connector issue (which is a much simpler task to resolve than cutting all wires from the motor like our original plan).
